I ett framtidens England möter vi en kall och hård diktatur. Den leds av en mycket bitter John Hurt som har förvandlat landet till ett fängelse, där folk inte får vistas på gatorna efter midnatt, det finns bara en enda TV-kanal, och homosexuella, färgade och politiska aktivister döms till döden. I detta kontrollerade kaos möter vi Evey Hammond (Natalie Portman), som en kväll räddas från döden av en maskerad man i lång kappa, som kallar sig V (Hugo Weaving). Tre backpackers ger sig ut i Australiens ödemarker för att bl.a. se en stor krater efter en meteorit. Efter många mil kommer de äntligen fram och då väntar en tre timmar lång gångstig för att de ska nå sitt mål. Efter kraterbesöket är det dags att dra vidare mot nya mål men bilen är helt död och de är fast utan någonstans att ta vägen. Som tur (?) är kommer en främling och erbjuder ungdomarna hjälp, en hjälp det senare skulle visa sig de gott skulle klarat sig utan./moviezine.se
